The JFR Blues

These lessons are structured much the same way I do things on the main site jfrocks.com. These lessons will cover various aspects of acoustic guitar and things to practice. Mostly dealing with steel 6 string acoustic as that's what I play. However, some lessons will deal with Nylon string acoustic guitar as well. Either way the lessons covered here are interchangeable between the two guitar string types. Although I recommend learning and practicing on Steel string acoustic. This is because its more difficult to play and you will improve your electric playing immensely because you will build finger strength. Also acoustic is less forgiving than electric. Mistakes can and will be heard and are not covered up by effects or heavy reverb. Updates to this page will be as often as I can. I'm only human and while I have help with jfrocks.com, I'm on my own with this off shoot. LOL I will strive for an average update of 1 per week. To be alerted of updates to this site or the main site, please sign up for our alerts on the main website. You will receive an email when updates to either site have been made.

Performance notes
For this lesson I made this doable with a pick. You can either use your fingers or a pick I don't care. The lesson here is about the double stops and the scale in play and also the feel of it. See video for additional tips. The tabs for the JFRocks Blues are below.

Scale at play here
E, F#, G, G#, A, B, C#, D, D#.
This is a 9 tone scale very similar to the one that Mr. V.H. likes to use when he can.
This is not a blues box or even a full Major or minor scale. These are the notes we work with and we mess with notes from within our chord pattern. I.e. the notes that make up the chords we are using. Which in this case are E, A, B9. and also G in spots but it's very brief.
E___________________________________________0_2_3_4_5_7_9_10_11_12______
B_________________________________0_2_3_4_5_____________________________
G_________________________0_1_2_4_______________________________________
D_______________0_1_2_4_5_______________________________________________
A_________0_2_4_________________________________________________________
E_0_2_3_4_______________________________________________________________
Main chords
Note sometimes for the B9 we do the open 1st string in stead of the 2nd fret 1st string. No need to argue semantics we'll keep it simple here and call it a B9. lol
E A B9

G_1___2_____6_____2__________________________
D_2___2_____7_____1__________________________

Main Double stops at play
There are others of course but if you understand these you can figure out the others without much trouble.
